Popping back in...Summer 2018.

Hi there after many many months away!

Time flies ever faster these days.  Small screens have overtaken larger ones, Instagram has become addictive and I feel it is time for a smartphone detox.  Instagram was an easy way to post pics of things I had been painting and doodling, but I am going to try to not look at it or use it as much.  I feel manipulated to keep checking in to that small bright colourful screen which holds so much promise but is in reality such a time waster.  It feels as though I have become more anxious, more doubtful, less confident, more judgmental and less connected surprisingly.

I am setting a timer for myself on that little hand held access point to the whole wide world....I have books to read, ideas to paint, embroideries to embroider and swims to swim.  So I am going to try and visit back here more regularly and post pics of the things I am doing.

My little shop at bigcartel is still open for business. Thank you to everyone who has been purchasing my patterns.  'She Stood in the Storm' is still a favourite!

Hope to see you back here soon....

Just finished this one today.  Been embroidering it for a long long time!

I did this little pattern with a group of seniors last year and they all enjoyed the stitching and did such a good job

I kept a journal last year and did some tiny embroideries which I glued in randomly through the pages

A few more stitches added

April 2017 Autumn

Hello....Just popping in to say hi and apologise for the lack of postings over the last year.  I have changed the way I have been doing things, unfortunately less embroidery, but more doodling and sketching and watercolours, which I mostly post on Instagram, here

I have stopped posting on Flickr, though I still have some embroidery photos on there if you would like to have a look here

I have had a big clean up of all my embroidery bits and pieces, so I am hoping to find some new inspiration for some little embroideries.

Life moves quickly and I don't often find the time to sit still and contemplate, though I do try and find time for swimming in the ocean!

My little bigcartel shop is still open also, if you are interested in purchasing an embroidery pattern in PDF form, or you can email me also.

Bye for now
Wendy

2016 - January February and March....

Oh my goodness, three months have already disappeared.  Almost.  School holidays took up most of January.  Summer has stretched all the way from December into March.  Autumn hasn't really started and the heat has been unbearable at times.  We have had lots of swims, lots of sunshine, coffees and walks.  We have been camping (and sleeping in tents!) eating hamburgers and icecreams, making smoothies, and trying to keep cool.  Painting and drawing seems to have overtaken stitching and sewing still.  I would like to be doing more stitching as I find it very relaxing, and I find painting very frustrating at times, but I am compelled to keep trying.   Here are some photos from the last three months...

A little embroidery I finished not long ago.

Above and below are some of the cards I drew and painted with watercolours for family Christmas cards

All of them have been painted from photos found on instagram, mostly on dogsofinstagram

Below is a photo of a camping ground we stayed at,  and a billabong filled up by recent rains with everyone camped around it...the smell of all those paperbark trees reminded me of camping when we were kids....

A very Australian bush scene.
It was wonderful to see all the trees in the camping ground had been left there and not chopped down.  Everyone was camped in and around the trees so there was a lot more privacy.  No powered sites and no phone reception!!!  But there was the most wonderful little cafe in among the trees serving delicious healthy food and great coffee!

A huge storm threatened, but luckily did not eventuate.  I don't think my tent would have survived!  Below is my interpretation of the night time there among the trees and the stars and the campfires!

I would love to go back there soon.

December 2015......catch up!

What a long time since I last posted!  I won't make excuses.  But I will post some photos of what I have been up to.

My tiny shop at bigcartel is alive and kicking.  A big thank you to everyone who has been purchasing patterns from me.  It really is lovely to be sending those patterns off into the wide world and to get lovely emails back from people telling me what they are embroidering.

My focus has been on painting lately, though I do wish I was embroidering more than I have been.  I joined a lovely art group and I go once a week, trying to improve.  I still don't think I have discovered my style and I like experimenting with lots of different mediums.  I'm trying to keep internet time to a minimum, but I am not so good when it comes to Instagram.  It is so easy to get lost in looking instead of actually doing, so getting into a habit of sitting down to paint or draw or embroider is important to me.  My table is covered in art supplies and embroidery pieces.

Wishing you all a happy, peaceful, healthy 2016!!!

I was making a Christmas embroidery pattern, but I got sidetracked somewhere along the way and haven't finished it.  It was supposed to be similar to my other embroidery which I did a while ago, but I wasn't sure how it was going to look all in black and I couldn't decide whether to put some red into it.  What do you think?

I continued to do the painting a day project - just a postcard size painting or drawing.  I missed days, but that's ok.  At least I tried!

I attempted to keep a little moleskine visual diary as well for quick sketches and paintings.

Beginning the art group made me get out the acrylics again and start practising.

I visited my sisters and the family cats.  There was a new addition to the family - a little poodle/cavalier.  Then I had a visitor to the tree right outside my balcony.  He/she stayed all day then climbed down in the night and disappeared into the darkness.

I've had plenty of swims and beach walks and summery sunsets, well maybe not enough swims yet but summer has really only just begun.

I have just started trying to paint some very cute dogs from Instagram on postcard size watercolour paper and I've used pencil, colour pencil, white pen and watercolour.  I chose these gorgeous dogs from dogsofinstagram.

Now it must be time for a coffee.
